Ac Food Pyramid
EDITORIAL REVIEW
The following Food Pyramid has been created by the Atlantic City Dietary Commission to ensure a healthy, balanced diet for all visitors:
Boardwalk Food
(6 or more servings):
This is the main staple of a balanced Atlantic City diet. Even if you aren't hungry, you'll find it difficult to resist the various aromas emanating from the collection of eateries found along the boardwalk.
Casino Buffets
(3-5 servings):
Just as it would be silly to eat all proteins and no carbs, you could not have a balanced Atlantic City diet by constantly eating outside. A smorgasbord of food awaits inside the casinos! Buffets generally provide the best of many worlds in one place. Looking for Prime Rib and a side of Kung Pao chicken? All you can eat mashed potatoes and seven different deserts? Do it.
Salt Water Taffy
(2-4 servings):
Saltwater taffy is a must have delicacy, found prominently on the "Joisey Shaw". Atlantic City is the birthplace of this famous candy. But why should you be including taffy as part of your Atlantic City diet? The answer is simple: anything that comes in 60 different flavors has to be good for you. It's just tough trying to decide between the buttered popcorn & the caramel cheesecake.
Cheesesteaks/Subs
(2 servings):
As we move towards the bottom of the pyramid, its time to incorporate some heartier portions into your diet. Adopted from nearby Philly, the cheesesteak is a delicious lunch option available all around Atlantic City. If grilled steak smothered in cheese sounds unhealthy to you, you may substitute a meatball sub, or a Whitehouse Special with everything on it.
AC Classics
(2 servings):
As hard as it may be to believe, your stomach will not always crave cheesesteaks, taffy, and funnel cakes. In times like these, you should seek out a couple of local favorites. Angelo's Fairmount Tavern not only specializes in a variety of homemade Italian recipes, they even make their own wine! Looking for a hidden gem? Chef Vola's is located in the basement of a beach house, but don't let that stop you from visiting one of AC's most acclaimed restaurants.
Fine Dining
(occasionally):
From the basement to the penthouse, its time to go classy. Not to fear, Atlantic City is filled with excellent restaurants that will satisfy your more sophisticated cravings. Whether you're in the mood for caviar (Red Square), Asian fusion (Buddakan), or seafood (Doc's Oyster House), you'll be able to find an elegant restaurant to satisfy your refined palate.
