The amazing story of the Borgata added a new chapter this month with the completion of the first portion of a major two-part expansion. Already the youngest casino in town by thirteen years, Borgata continues to add new venues and stay at the forefront of what's making Atlantic City so exciting these days. It's almost hard to believe, but the expansion of a casino that's only three years old is actually born out of necessity. Since opening in July 2003, Borgata has been the top-grossing casino in Atlantic City for all but one month. They actually need to grow in order to accommodate the demand.
Now open to the public, the $200 million project added 36,120 square feet of casino floor space, an 85-table poker room, three restaurants from celebrity chefs, a second nightclub, mur.mur and a quick-service food court called The Cafeteria.
The quintessential Borgata experience of great dining and nightlife in an upscale atmosphere are expected to go to a new level in the expanded area. Rumors of how exclusive the new club mur.mur will be are already creating a buzz and the new dining options come from some of the biggest names in the business. In addition to more dining and nightlife, Borgata will now have the largest poker room in the city.
One of the most common gripes about Borgata is that the table limits are too high. On a Saturday night it's nearly impossible to find a blackjack table for less than $50 a hand. Previously, the Borgata was simply too busy to run lower limit tables. In theory, the new tables of the expanded area should now make some lower limit tables available. If the limits do indeed get lower, Borgata's headlock on the rest of the city just got tighter.
The incredible success of Borgata continues to be the catalyst for change in Atlantic City. For fans of the new Atlantic City such as CityAtlantic, that's nothing but good news.
