A fun and easy way to spend a few hours is a visit to Steel Pier, the amusement park right on the beach across from the Taj Mahal. Kids can ride in the Grand Prix Go Karts, or drive Bumper Cars (it's healthy for kids to get reckless driving out of their systems well before their teenage years). The Steel Pier has rides for all ages, and is a nice way of spending a day outdoors.
