Forget
church on Sunday - the path to Heaven is 430 feet above the ocean at the
Trump Taj Mahal. The hotel recently unveiled seven luxurious new penthouse
suites atop the Taj to the tune of $14 million, but the pièce de résistance
is the 9-room, 4000 sq. ft. Alexander Suite. Remember that scene in Rain Man
when Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman slow dance in matching suits in the
middle of the high roller's suite in Vegas? This is better than that.
The Alexander is all about excess. Its massive floor plan includes a
domed entryway, powder room, living room, master bedroom with sitting area,
master bath, dressing room, guest bedroom, guest bath, guest dressing room,
dining room, butler's kitchen, and pantry. No less than five LCD TVs -
ranging in size from 15 to 50 inches - adorn the living area, master and
guest bedrooms, and master and guest bathrooms. Plasma screens in the
bathrooms? Well you'll need something to watch as you soak in the cavernous
6-foot bath tub set in an elevated marble base - that is, if the 270-degree
view of the city's lights, boardwalk, and coastline aren't enough to keep
you occupied.
Hungry? Have a snack at your 8-person dining table and put that
Bernardaud china and Christolfe silver to good use. Tired? Tuck yourself
into the 560-thread count sheets on your California king bed and pull the
plush hand-embroidered duvet up to your chin for a long nap. No matter if it
is the middle of the day: the room can make itself completely dark at the
touch of a button.
BOSE sound systems and Bulgari bath products aside, the Alexander offers
guests a range of aesthetic pleasures, too. Custom art commissioned through
The Penthouse Suites at Taj Mahal Art Program hangs throughout the suite.
Floral arrangements from Stem by David Tutera fill the rooms with the
intoxicating perfume of tropical flowers and seasonal blooms. There's even a
shiny black baby grand piano perched in front of one of the floor-to-ceiling
windows so you can stare out into the Atlantic as you tickle the ivories.
The Alexander affords a lifestyle fit for a Trump, so needless to say it
isn't exactly affordable. The price for luxury in the Alexander Suite? A
cool $10,000. Don't worry, this price includes free cocktails while you are
gaming.
