Dining At The Pier
EDITORIAL REVIEW
The Pier at Caesars houses seven new restaurants that are changing the face of Atlantic City's culinary scene. Located on the boardwalk in the heart of the city, these hot spots include concepts from some of the East Coast's most popular restaurateurs, including Boston's Patrick Lyons, Philadelphia's Stephen Starr and Baltimore's Steve Phillips. These restaurants bring a diverse selection of menus, decor and even cultures to the Promenade Level of The Pier, creating an international restaurant row atop the country's most stylish entertainment complex...and it's all right here in Atlantic City. Bon Appetit!
Phillips Seafood
Seafood lovers, your new favorite restaurant is here. If you've never ventured into a Phillips Seafood, or even picked up a frozen entree at a supermarket, get ready for a real treat. The design of the restaurant follows the same formula as their menu. It's an open and airy concept that is unpretentious and allows you to focus on the important things: the views, the wine, the conversation, and of course, the delicious food. Each dish is expertly designed so that you actually taste every ingredient: the spice, the sauce, the seasoning, and the freshest of seafood, without one overpowering the other. The seasonal menu will change accordingly, but be on the lookout for roasted Barramundi with warm vegetable salad or baked haddock Parker House style. Of course, the jumbo lump crab cakes are famous and a rolling oyster cart will allow the freshest of oysters to be shucked right at your table. An extensive wine list is also available. Open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, Sunday through Thursday from 11am to 10pm and Friday and Saturday from 11am to 11pm. For more information, call 609-348-2273.
Souzai Sushi & Sake
Offering what could easily be considered the best view of Atlantic City, Souzai Sushi & Sake is an exciting addition to The Pier Shops at Caesars. Meaning 'small plates' Souzai features traditional sushi in a Japanese setting. Bamboo, stone, wood and other natural materials create an atmosphere that is both intimate and expansive under 25-foot high ceilings. Sushi, sashimi, tempura, satays and many vegetarian offerings pepper the menu that changes seasonally. Celebrated chef and local legend Tommy Sushi is executive chef of Souzai, Phillips Seafood's first foray into sushi. Open daily from 11am. For more information, call 609-348-4443.
Trinity Irish Pub and Carvery
If you ask me, there can never be too many Irish pubs. And you certainly don't have to be Irish to enjoy a pint or two. Everything from the floor boards to the ceiling tiles were brought over from Ireland to create this authentic pub. If you have a taste for the brew, you've come to the right place. Trinity has a wide selection of brews including Guinness, Harp, Smithwick's Ale and Magner's Hard Cider. Of course, there is plenty of bar food - some you've heard of and some you haven't -like fish and chips, Sheppard's pie and an Irish favorite, battered burgers and curry fries. But there's also a lot more on the menu including pan roasted Atlantic salmon and grilled Brook trout, and selections from the carvery including a free range chicken and leg of lamb. Desserts include oatmeal and Irish whiskey creme brulee. Open seven days a week, Monday through Thursday from 11:30am until 3am. and Friday and Saturday until 4am. Full menu service is available until 11pm but you can get bar food until 1am. For more information, call 609-345-6900.
Sonsie
Leave your pretensions at the door and get ready for a restaurant and bar that you can truly call your home away from home. With a tagline that reads "Luck Love Live" what's not to like about this transplant from Boston? The Beantown original had an immediate impression on the city's food scene and the Atlantic City location should do the same. Chef Martin Doyle presents a menu that includes well-done bistro favorites such as steaks, salads and brick-oven pizzas, but also offers some exciting variations including Crispy Braised Lamb Shank with couscous & ancho chile sauce or Proscuitto-Wrapped Atlantic Salmon with sweet potato gnocci. The impeccable service matches the quality of the food and with most entrees under $30; Sonsie is a bargain for the sensational dining experience. Soon they will be serving a full breakfast menu including banana and chocolate chip stuffed French toast with maple syrup and caramelized bananas or jumbo lump crab cake Eggs Benedict with potato pancakes and hollandaise. While they'e not open for breakfast just yet, you can check in a few weeks. Open seven days a week. Breakfast will be served from 8am until 3pm. Lunch is served from 11:30am until 3pm. Dinner is served from 5pm until 11pm. For more information, call 609-345-6300.
Game On!
Who can't wait to try out the mechanical bull? You read that right, but there is also music videos, DJs and, count them, 90 Hi-Definition screens towatch the latest football, baseball, hockey, basketball or any ballgame at Game On. Weekend nights have been absolutely nuts at Game On, placing it as the leader of the pack as the after-dinner throw down and drink kind of bar. After all, the sound system is the same as Jet Nightclub in Vegas, so it'd be a shame to let all those decibels go to waste. This sports bar is straight from Fenway Park but don't think it's all about Beantown. The menu features all the best stadium food from around the nation like the "Coney Island" foot-long hot dog, the Chicago dog, New England lobster roll and Carolina pulled pork sandwich. Open seven days a week, Sunday through Thursday from 11:30am - 3am, and Friday and Saturday from 11:30am - 4am. Food service is available until 2am, so make sure to order before last call. The Continental
The atmosphere is a cross between "The Jetsons" and "The Brady Bunch." The Continental's frontage is a delightful "outdoor" patio where a sunken fire-pit lounge and water-edged pathway are just the beginning. Talk about swanky! You've got to try the "Sammy Davis Room" (pictured here), a large flowershaped dining pod with booths, communal ottoman and cocktail tables - it's funky! All the rooms are retro, but evoke a sense of the modern. The menu has the same effect by taking classic dishes and giving them a new twist. Dishes include Rad Na Thai chicken, tuna tartare potato skins and herb lamb chops. Sure to be a favorite on the cocktail circuit, The Continental's signature drinks include the Dean Martini with Ketel One vodka and an olive served with a Lucky Strike and a book of matches, the Buzz Aldrin with Tang (yes, they still make that), peach vodka and Triple Sec, served in an orange Tang-rimed glass, and a Dirty Shirley with cherry vodka, grenadine and 7 UP. Open for lunch, Monday through Friday, from 11:30am until 4pm, and brunch, Saturday and Sunday, from 11am until 4pm. Dinner is served Sunday - Thursday from 4pm until midnight, and on Friday and Saturday until 1am. For more information, call 609-674-8300.
