Perhaps the shopping revolution began in town with The Walk, boasting a nearly endless list of famous labels and product offerings at outlet pricing (not to mention a variety of eateries and bars). Another shopping niche was filled when The Pier Shops at Caesars opened on the boardwalk, introducing Atlantic City to elegant, high end designer shops, a kaleidoscope of entertainment and a broad spectrum of dining options from casual pubs and bistros to noteworthy upscale restaurants.
 The Borgata brought some serious shopping to the Marina District with Whim and now the stakes are raised again this President's Day Weekend with the opening of The Waterfront Shops at Harrah's, the latest stop on Atlantic City's burgeoning shopping circuit.
If you're looking for something extra special for yourself, or to give as a gift, The Waterfront Shops will provide abundant variety. Let's take a tour, starting with Elements at Home which offers unique decor and collectible pieces, including decorative and seasonal gifts, distinctive barware, even luxurious bath and body products.
Ladies, are you ready to check out some shoes? (And, honestly, when exactly are we not ready?!?) Then let's sashay on over to Studio Shoes featuring stylish footwear, smart handbags, fashion jewelry, chic sunglasses and scentsational fragrances. Of course, you'll need a fabulous new outfit to complement all the great accessories you've just selected! Put your newly decked out foot in the door at Studio which showcases select designer and fashion apparel for women (including plus sizes).
For special occasions or to honor an important milestone, Park Place Jewelers has a massive array of precious metal and gemstone jewelry to dazzle even the most discriminating buyer. And let's not forget about the men in our lives! Park Place Jewelers has a fine collection of elegant timepieces for men and women.
And, for what is sure to be every gadget guy's favorite place to shop, there's Sony Innovations. Yes, all the techies and audiophiles can drool over the latest-and-greatest in LCD TVs, Home Theatre and DVD Players, MP3 Players and Walkmans, Digital Cameras and Video Recorders, Stereos, Game Systems and even CDs and DVDs. And, being the only store of its kind in the area, Christopher Jonic of Harrah's, predicts, "Sony Innovations will be a unique retail experience."
Now don't get the wrong idea. A wallet bursting at the seams with your slot or table winnings is not required to hit the Waterfront Shops. For everyday staples to first-rate souvenirs for the kids and everything in between, be sure to hit Destinations. You can treat your sweet tooth there with Chocolate Confections by Joseph Schmidt.
And when you're ready to satisfy a deeper, more burning hunger, you need not travel far. A world of culinary delights awaits famished shoppers at the Waterfront Buffet. Guests can indulge in entrees from ten distinct stations which include American Bounty for freshly charbroiled steaks; Italian Cucina with made-to-order pasta; Rodizio for hand-carved rotisserie meats; Seafood cooked over a rotating fire pit along with freshly steamed crab legs; Asian Wok and Mongolian Barbecue; Sushi Bar and Dim Sum; Salad and Soup; and, of course, Homemade Desserts.
For those of you keeping stats, the Waterfront Buffet boasts 36,000 square feet of restaurant and kitchen space, 290 feet of counter space lined up with 120 specially prepared delicacies and 612 comfortable guest seats. It all adds up to a buffet that should "quickly become the best in market," according to Jonic.
Perhaps even more exciting is the fact that the Waterfront Shops and Waterfront Buffet represent just the first phase of Harrah's impressive $550 million expansion which broke ground in April 2006. Jonic explains, "A need existed to really expand our non-gaming amenities in the interest of becoming more of a complete destination."
Complete isn't the half of it! The President's Day Weekend opening of the Waterfront Shops and Buffet will be closely followed by the unveiling of Phase II, anticipated for completion Memorial Day Weekend. Phase II will bring a breathtaking 23,000 square foot pool area that will include twelve cabanas, a bar, and many "Water-tainment" programs. Guests in want or need of pampering have something spectacular to look forward to as well in Phase II --an Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa. This elite spa will be one of less than 40 Red Door Spas located throughout the United States and Europe. July will bring an additional clothing boutique, called Top Drawer, to the Waterfront Shops. With so much to do at Harrah's, guests will surely be wanting a room for the night. "At this point, Atlantic City has a severe shortage of hotel rooms. It is believed by many that the current market could easily handle another 7,000 rooms added to the mix," Jonic explains. Solution? Phase III, which includes a massive 44-floor tower that will contain 961 guestrooms. 104 of these rooms will be stunning suites and eight more will be luxurious super suites. The planned opening for the new tower is Spring 2008.
