Tom
Carver has a long history serving the people of New Jersey. He was the first
President of the New Jersey Aviation Association; founder of The Carver
Group, a multifaceted consulting firm with a strong background in equal
opportunity employment and minority entrepreneurship; and former President
of the Casino Association of New Jersey, where he was the architect of
groundbreaking changes in New Jersey's gaming policy. He also assisted in
the creation of the South Jersey Transportation Authority and the Casino
Reinvestment Development Authority, to which he is now returned as Executive
Director. Immediately prior to returning to the CRDA, Carver was
Commissioner of New Jersey's Department of Labor and Workforce Development.
Carver is also a 22-year veteran of the Port Authority of New York and New
Jersey.
Do you live in Atlantic City?
I spend so much time here that I often say I live in Atlantic City, but
I sleep somewhere else.
Where do you see the city in five years?
Atlantic City has improved dramatically in several key areas over the
last couple of years. I see us continuing this process by taking on major
projects that will benefit the city. We'd like to construct a grand entrance
to the city and improve its transportation system. We're also working
towards full, meaningful employment for all of the city's citizens.
What's your part in getting there?
I try to coordinate and work with people who can affect change.
Do you have a specific agenda or "pet projects" that you
would like to see the CRDA tackle?
The single agenda is to achieve greatness in Atlantic City. I have no
personal agenda. My predecessor Curtis Bashaw did a great job in realizing
his vision for the revitalization of the city's facades. My goal is to
promote the Jersey Shore as a complete resort package with Atlantic City as
the centerpiece. It's truly one of the places that somebody in Paris would
want to get on a plane and visit.
