Go For The Gold Ring as the WSOP Circuit Brings The Biggest Names In Poker Back To Atlantic City.
World Series of Poker Blows Up The World Series of Poker originated back in 1970 at the Horseshoe Casino in Las Vegas. The owner of the casino back then was the famed Benny Binion and he thought it would be a good idea to get the best poker players in the world together for a tournament. That was the first ripple in the pond, which has turned into the poker tsunami of today. This year, the main event in Las Vegas had over 5,000 entries creating prize pool of over 50 million dollars. This success has lead Harrah's, the current torch bearer of the World Series of Poker brand, to expand the World Series into a traveling spectacle.
Hit The Road Jack The inaugural WSOP circuit event was held at Harrah's Atlantic City at the beginning of the year. Subsequent events were held at 4 other casinos throughout the United States. All of the championship events of these tournaments were broadcast on ESPN during primetime. With the recent addition of all Bally's Entertainment properties, Harrah's has turned things up a notch. This year the Circuit will include 12 events to be held in such far and wide places as Las Vegas, California and Indiana. Atlantic City will play a featured role in the Circuit with 3 events. Caesars Atlantic City will host one this upcoming March, Harrah's in February and the Showboat at the end of November leading into early December.
In Stores Now The event at Showboat will consist of 8 No-Limit Hold'em events with entry fees starting at $200. This will all culminate in the Championship event, which starts on December 6th. The buy in for this event is $10,000. Don't worry, if that price seems too steep there are lots of cheaper satellites running every day.
Who's Who of Poker The best players in the world are expected at this WSOP tournament. Players like John Juanda, Phil Ivey, TJ Cloutier, and Eric Seidel have already competed in earlier circuit events. The winner of the circuit event gets the coveted WSOP Gold Ring. Chris "Jesus" Ferguson has two of these along with his five WSOP bracelets. Are you ready to take him on? Good luck!
