Making Precious Strides, Inc. will be hosting the First Annual Zach's Run, a 5K Run and 1 Mile Family Fun Walk. The event will kick off a number of events slated for the upcoming year to create awareness and raise funds in support of finding a cure for Mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) Type II, also known as Hunter Syndrome. Hundreds of runners and walkers are expected to gather at Oscar McClinton Park on New Hampshire Avenue and the Boardwalk in Atlantic City to support the local organization's first fundraising effort to find a cure for this rare genetic disease.

Children diagnosed with Hunter Syndrome lack the enzyme responsible for recycling mucopolysaccharides in the body. The disorder causes progressive damage to the overall development and growth of these children. At present, there is treatment for symptoms, but no cure for the disease. Various methods in enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) are currently being tested that would artificially replace the missing enzyme in the body. While this is not a cure, it will allow those affected by Hunter Syndrome to live a more normal life.

Gilda's Club South Jersey 2nd Annual Movers. Shakers. Difference Makers
A live and silent auction will be held on Friday, September 15, 2006 at The Palm Restaurant in Atlantic City to raise funds for Gilda's Club South Jersey. Some of the absolutely incredible items up for auction include a personal portrait by Peter Max, a beachfront Villa in Anguilla, an ocean-view suite in Matzallan and a full-page ad in CityAtlantic magazine.
Admission to the event, which kicks off at 11:30 a.m., are available for a minimum donation of $100 per person and all donations are tax-deductible. For more information about the event or to place a donation, please call 609-926-2699 and ask for Sarah Griffith.
Gilda's Club is named for Gilda Radner, the beloved Saturday Night Live comedienne who died of cancer in 1989. Gilda's Clubs offer free social and emotional support in a warm, welcoming, homelike, but non-residential setting. Gilda's Club of South Jersey is open to anyone who has cancer, as well as his or her family and friends.
