Gallagher's
EDITORIAL REVIEW
Resorts entered the lucrative steak chain market when it signed Gallagher's as a tenant for the Dining Level in 2005. Gallagher's might well be the most authentic of any steakhouse that bills itself as a "New York steakhouse". The history of Gallagher's began when it was a speakeasy and Prohibition-era social lounge for gamblers, sports figures and show business people. When the sale of liquor was re-legalized following the repeal of Prohibition in 1933, Gallagher's became Broadway's first steakhouse and was, according to legend, the first to serve the "New York Strip" steak. Gallagher's didn't bother with the plush and elegant look that was then popular for restaurants, but instead went back to the basics: plain plank floors, wood paneled walls and red check tablecloths - creating an informal combination of speakeasy and country inn. You'll find the same simple but elegant feel at Resorts Atlantic City. Not content with just the restaurant, right across from the main restaurant is the Burger Bar. Take a Gallagher's steak, grind it and put it on a bun, and then add in a full bar and other appetizers, and a Burger Bar is born.
