EDITORIAL REVIEW

Go to Old Waterway Inn (don't get lost; more on that later) and dive straight into the seafood-inspired menu. Soups, notably their crab or lobster bisques, are what make Old Waterway special. In the entrée category, the Maryland-style crab cakes and many of the pasta dishes are standouts. Entrees are in the $15 to $25 range. The only true problem is the restaurant's obscure location, which will almost assuredly be unfamiliar to the prototypical casino and beach tourist. Call ahead for detailed directions, because while the restaurant is technically in Atlantic City, it is not on Absecon Island. It's tucked away in the Gramercy Heights section of town, which sits on the New Jersey mainland. Old Waterway is a great casino escape with excellent skyline views from the mainland side. Just be sure to know where you're going.

USER REVIEWS OF OLD WATERWAY INN

Took advantage of a delicate situation 5.0 Stars

At first our visit started off exceptionally well, our reservations had been for 8:30 but because of a HUGE limo conflict we did not arrive until 10:30 - after the restaurant had closed. We had a party of 10 and were celebrating my 24th birthday and so they were kind enough to re open the place exclusively for our party. We had been drinking the entire 2 hour trip to Atlantic City and so only 4 out of the ten of us ordered an alcoholic beverage. The waitress insisted she was going to make our meal as simple for us as possible and said I'm bringing you out two trays of appetizers until your dinner is ready. Two of the girls do not eat seafood and did not touch the appetizers, they ordered a seperate one to split between the two of them. After our entrees came out, the waitress followed with a tray full of birthday shots as she put it. She later came out with a piece of birthday cake and a candle and had everyone sing to me which we though was so special. Special until she gave us our $800 bill which included a heft $150 in gratuity. She charged us $21 a head for appetizers for 12 (our party was 10 and two girls ordered their own) she charged us for the 10 birthday shots - which I feel had been given to us complimentary and she charged us for the birthday cake. NONE of these things had been ordered by us. I picked this restaurant because the menu varied and prices so that those of us who didnt want to spend a fortune on dinner didnt have to. When I asked to speak to a manager our waitres came over and put her arm around my shoulder whispering we opened the place for you dont do this. We paid our bill and left and I will never return or recommend that place. I feel that because we were a rowdy bunch of 20 year olds who looked like they had money to spend bc we showed up in a limo that they used their "generosity" to take full advantage of an already lousy evening. Other than the food being good, the location was horrible and the service was unacceptable.
