His tongue-and-cheek commentaries proposed concepts like putting warning labels on the Bible, why we should have drunk driving lanes, and granted newsmakers like Newt Gingrich and the O.J. Simpson defense team his "Get Over Yourself Award." The show, which first aired on Comedy Central before securing the coveted post-"Nightline" time slot on ABC, produced some of the most controversial and entertaining discussions of our time, bringing the world"s most fascinating politicians, entertainers, and journalists together to discuss current affairs. The program was nominated for an Emmy for "Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Series" in 2001 and combined with Maher won four CableAce Awards.
