| Editorial Review |
The Flagship is our favorite alternative to the casino hotels, offering some of the most spacious guestrooms in the city at affordable rates. And while its location may seem remote at first glance, this contemporary hotel is all but out of the way.
The Flagship is a 32-story, all-suite resort that sits at the northern tip of Atlantic City. The hotel is ideal for just about any travel agenda, whether it’s a family vacation, a business trip or a romantic getaway. Guestrooms are divided into Junior Suites and One Bedroom Suites.
Junior Suites comfortably sleep 2-4 people, with your choice of one King-size bed or two Double-size beds. One Bedroom Suites include a living room area with a sleeper sofa, and a private bedroom with a second television. All suites come equipped with a kitchenette, a dining area, a large 25-inch television, and a private balcony. These balconies offer some of the best views in the city, either of the Atlantic Ocean, the Marina District or the downtown skyline.
Property amenities accommodate all ages. Highlights include an indoor pool and Jacuzzi, a fully equipped fitness center (arguably the best non-casino gym in town), and a nice-sized gameroom that has everything from video games and pinball to billiards.
While there are a variety of dining options available throughout the city, both inside and outside the casinos, the Flagship offers its very own restaurant, the Ozone Bar & Grille. In addition to serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, the Ozone features a panoramic bar, complete with four TVs and a state-of-the-art sound system. The Ozone is also designed with giant windows, through which guests can enjoy even more excellent views of the hotel’s inspiring nautical surroundings.
The Flagship boasts a serene location along the famous Boardwalk of Atlantic City. Guests can stroll the wooden walkway to 11 of the city’s 14 casinos. Admittedly, it is a rather “healthy” walk to some of the casino properties located at the southern end of town; but worry not, for there are more sedentary traveling options readily available.
For a more traditional journey, we suggest a nice walk along the boards to one of the northern casino properties, such as the Showboat or Taj Mahal, and from there simply catch a ride on one of the rolling chairs, a 1-4-person carriage-like vessel that is manually pushed up and down the length of the boardwalk by a single guide. Since the 1800s visitors to Atlantic City have been riding these wicker rolling chairs, which are stationed at every casino along the Boardwalk. (Keep in mind you are being charged by the block.)
Another, less expensive option is to hop on a Jitney bus – not to be confused with the larger city buses - which will take you the length of the city for just a flat fee of $1.50. Jitney buses are everywhere and run 24 hours a day. A third option is to just hop on the Flagship shuttle bus, which will take you to any of the 14 casino properties in town---perhaps the best option for those going to the casino properties in the marina district (Harrah’s, Borgata, Trump Marina).
If the non-stop casino gaming has you down on your luck, you might enjoy a day at historic Gardener’s Basin, located a few blocks south from the Flagship. Gardener’s Basin is a relaxing bayside locale offering a variety of activities for the whole family. Charter a fishing cruise or spend a day on one of the cocktail cruises or sightseeing tours; there’s also parasailing and waterskiing adventures. Visitors can dine bayside at the Flying Cloud Café, go antiquing or take the kids to the Ocean Life Center, which offers a fun and educational look at more than 100 varieties of fish and marine animals through numerous live exhibits.
