Yes, the Howard Johnson is an economy-class hotel, but THIS Howard Johnson is no ordinary economy-class hotel. Guests here are offered affordable accommodations in a fantastic location along the Pacific Avenue strip, less than a block from the Boardwalk and beaches. What’s more, this full-service retreat has a large selection of room types to choose from, as well as a nice variety of property amenities for all travelers. The Howard Johnson Atlantic City sits between the Hilton and Tropicana casinos; however, guests can leave their hotel and walk to 11 out of 14 casinos either via the Boardwalk or Pacific Avenue. Perhaps the 20-30-minute walk to the northernmost casino properties seems a bit long to you? No problem. Just hop on a Jitney bus – not to be confused with the full-sized city buses – and for a flat fee of $1.50 you get a quick ride to any casino of your choice. Jitney buses run 24 hours, just like the casinos, and it just so happens there’s a Jitney stop directly in front of the hotel. Guests can select from a variety of room types; however, this is still a Howard Johnson’s, so don’t expect all the finest luxuries to be waiting for you upstairs - regardless of what room-type you choose. Still, when staying here, it’s the low rates and prime location that you’re benefiting from, not all those flashy extras in your room. The Howard Johnson Atlantic City offers Standard rooms with either one King bed or two Double beds. The hotel also features 10 Home-Office rooms (obviously geared for the business traveler), 2 Handicap rooms, and 1 Suite with Double beds. Families and large groups can take advantage of the hotel’s adjoining rooms. All guestrooms come with a small sitting area, a work desk, cable TV with HBO, and the standard basics like hairdryers, alarm clocks and ironing equipment. Microwaves and refrigerators are available upon request. The hotel has an outdoor heated pool that is open seasonally. Across from the pool area is the 24-hour gameroom---small, but not bad for the little ones. Guests can dine in-house at HJ’s Café and Lounge, which also offers room service. The Café serves a nice breakfast buffet in the morning and a variety of American cuisine for lunch and dinner. There’s also an intimate bar area in the corner which looks out onto Pacific Avenue, a cozy little place to enjoy a few cocktails before hitting the town.
