The Quality Inn Beach Block Hotel is one of the best values in Atlantic City for the economy-minded traveler. Here guests are placed in the heart of all the excitement of Atlantic City, with the casinos, the beaches and the famous Boardwalk just steps from the hotel. However, the commonly affordable rates of this Quality Inn may indeed change. According to an article featured in the Atlantic City Press (June, 2003), the Quality Inn has been purchased by Innkeepers USA Trust, a Florida-based real estate investment trust who will convert the property into an upscale Courtyard by Marriott hotel. Following this conversion, which will shut down the property for over a year beginning Oct. 31, 2003, it is likely that the new Courtyard by Marriott will be the only premium-branded, non-casino hotel in Atlantic City, setting a new standard for non-gaming hotels. Whether the reasonable rates associated with this location will change with the property’s new name and owner remains to be seen as of this writing. Nevertheless, the property’s location is still one of the major highlights of this hotel, whatever hotel it is when you stay here. In addition to the attractions situated along the Boardwalk less than a block away, the property is within walking distance to some of Atlantic City’s lesser-known (and all the more prized) family-owned establishments. For instance, Martini’s Lounge, a favorite nighttime hangout for casino employees, is located inside the Quality Inn building. We can only hope the 24-hour lounge is spared during renovation, as Martini’s is much more than your ordinary, drab hotel lounge. Even so, across the street is the Atlantic City Bar & Grill, where Gino and Co. have long been delighting customers with their amazing drink and meal specials---the $10 whole lobster dinner is always a pleaser. The AC Bar & Grill sees an upbeat, mixed clientele and gets quite crowded on weekends. Last but not least, just two blocks away is the famous Irish Pub, a must-visit when vacationing in Atlantic City. The Irish Pub offers an authentic European ambience just off the boardwalk, and serves some of the cheapest eats in town, like the hamburger and fries meal for just $1.90. Dark draft beer flows incessantly here, satiating a mixed clientele of the young and old from the world-over. Check out the back patio during the warmer months. Located on The Strip at the corner of South Carolina and Pacific Avenues, the property also offers easy access to the 24-hour Jitney buses – not to be confused with the full-sized city buses – which, for a flat fee of $1.50, will shuttle you to and from any casino property in town, as well as other interesting locations outside the downtown area. Currently, the Quality Inn Beach Block is a full-service hotel offering surprisingly spacious guestrooms and suites that are fully appointed with all the basic amenities you’d expect from a modern hotel. In-room courtesies range from coffeemakers and ironing equipment to cable TV and room service. Property highlights include free parking on-premises, a gameroom and gift shop, and unique guest packages that range from a day of golfing to lobster dinners to casino shows. Suites are appointed with saunas or whirlpool tubs.
