Mlxx. it says it all. Cuisines, cultures, styles, chefs... two of everything mixed together in one place. It’s a restaurant, but it’s also a nightclub. It’s Latin, but it’s also Asian. It’s Chef Edwyn Ferrari, but it’s also Chef Aaron Sanchez. And all the while, DJs are mixing tunes on the slamming Sound system. After 10p.m., Mixx transforms from a snazzy eatery into a syncopated dance scene.
CUISINE
Two cultures come together on one menu, on one plate, in one bowl. But there’s only one philosophy: Big flavors and simple preparations combine to create fresh, colorful dishes, with a myriad of spices. Executive Chef Edwyn Ferrari, who played an integral role in opening Nobu restaurants internationally, and Co-developing Chef Aaron Sanchez have identified the ingredients and cooking styles that unify the culinary traditions of Latin and Asian countries. They marry these traditions to create fresh, fun dishes, including skewered meats, raw seafood and curries, featuring coconut, lime, and an array of peppers. The dishes are then served family style for sharing.
Taste curries from around the world, including South America, Japan, Thailand. See everyday sushi rolls become anything but ordinary when given some Latin flair. A large busy sushi bar will produce not only sushi, but also sashimi, ceviches and tiraditos. A special section of the menu celled Stixx is dedicated to tasty bites served on skewers, such as sates and yakitoris.
Ferrari and Sanchez also combine their culinary roots in dishes like cornmeal calamari salad, whole fried catfish, and wok-charred vegetables, made with the freshest produce from Borgata Farms.
WINES AND COCKTAILS
To complement its Latin-Asian style, Mixx will offer a wide range of rums and sakes, as well as such innovative cocktails as a signature Shiso Mojito (shiso is a Japanese mint) and the Gran Margetini, The wine list features light, floral New World wines that go with the myriad of spices sprinkled throughout the menu. Reislings, Gewurtztramlners and Pinot Noirs from Argentina, Australia, New Zealand will complement the fresh flavors. Other beverages to choose from include an extensive selection of sakes, Latin and Asian beers, teas and batidos. The selection of spirits will feature Latin spirits, including rum, tequila and Mezcal, as well at single-malt scotches, small-batch bourbons, vodkas, gins, cognacs, armagnacs and Spanish brandy
DESIGN
ln keeping with MIXX’s multiple personalities, the restaurant / nightclub is comprised of two floors containing two bars, two lounges, and four private rooms. The Asian and Latin themes are intertwined throughout the space, with South American-style rusticated wood tables complemented by Chinese fixtures and Balinese wail plaques. The rod room invokes a dramatic feel, offering elements of surprise, while comfortable ottomans create a relaxed vibe in the upstairs lounge. Sushi chefs perform their art at the first floor sushi bar. Throughout the contemporary interior, warm-toned shades of orange, lime, rod, gold and rust produce a vibrant appearance to rival Mlxx’s vibrant energy.
