Strangely enough, The Sound of Philadelphia is about an hour's drive out of the city's limits on the second floor of The
Quarter at the Tropicana. Go figure.
Located in the Tropicana's hugely popular dining/entertainment complex, The Quarter, The Sound of Philadelphia (TSOP) offers a hip, soulful and sophisticated dining and lounge experience with live performances nightly and a full menu served until midnight. The entertainment line-up for TSOP is a dynamic mixture showcasing the rich history of the Jazz, R&B and the Philly Sound. Acts range from "Neo-Soul" to Jazz to Latin and
more. Actually, the very name of the place derives from the hit song "The Sound of Philadelphia," which originated when Don Cornelius, producer and host of Soul Train, asked the Three Degrees to do vocals for the show's new theme track. The tune became a huge disco hit in 1974. Nevertheless, that legacy, mixed with today's jazz and R&B influences, make up the core of the entertainment here. Dining is also a great experience at TSOP. The cuisine and beverage recipes were developed to provide a comprehensive menu that embodies and encompasses the true history of the "Sound of Philadelphia, incorporating a regional taste with an international flare! Tables are nestled close to the stage and other seating is available on the second
floor. There's a very reasonable $10 cover charge on Friday and Saturday nights after 10pm. TSOP is a must-experience for music lovers visiting The Quarter.
