EDITORIAL REVIEW
Vineyard Golf at Renault Winery opened in 2004 to rave reviews. It was declared by Travel and Leisure Golf magazine as one of the "30 best new courses in the world for 2004" and continues to collect accolades from both professionals and local duffers.
One of the most common praises about the course is that you get a huge amount of golf for your money. The greens fees at Vineyard Golf range from $45 - $90 per person for 18 holes, which includes a golf cart. This allows you to play some of the area's best golf at some of the best rates.
Designed by noted course architect Ed Shearon, Vineyard Golf covers 225 acres of land, 25 of which wind through the winery's scenic grapevines and orchards. The 7,213-yard layout is a par-72 that features four sets of tees with the forward tees at 5100 yards. The greens are covered with Penn A4 bent grass, which offers a consistently smooth putting surface regardless of the season. "The theme of this course design is angles," Shearon said. "Each golfer has a decision to make: circumvent the diagonal hazards, or attempt to go over them to gain a better angle on the green." This fabulous design allows less skilled players to stick to the fairways while giving better players the chance to really "go low".
One example of this ingenious layout is on the 15th, where players can either play the regular fairway for a 3 shot par-5 or carry to the left for an opportunity to hit the green in 2. For more information, or to make reservations and tee times, call 609-965-2111, or visit www.renaultwinery.com.
